Shelf Cloud in Delafield

Shelf Cloud in Delafield

The sky on the drive to Madison from Wauwatosa was sunny and blue until we approached Delafield, where we found ourselves driving directly into a shelf cloud. It felt sort of like driving into the apacolypse.

We had our hazards on for 20 miles, driving no faster than 40 MPH. Trucks and SUVs passed us in the right lane, spraying us with water from the road. Combined with the water from the sky, this meant we could see nothing but sheets of water for seconds at a time. We stopped in Johnson Creek to get gas and take a long, deep breath.

I am grateful we made it home safely.
